Adding Persistent Links to Your Web-based Teaching Material
Want to provide access to full-text material from your web page? You can use “permanent links” to access full-text articles from many of Hunter Library’s databases. Many of the Library's full-text providers have developed permanent addresses for their articles (so-called persistent, permanent, or stable links), which will work at any time, from any computer. The URL can be incorporated into a webpage, your WebCT course, or even sent in an e-mail.
First, determine full-text availability by using the Periodical Title search in the catalog to search for a particular journal title. The catalog record will indicate online availability of full-text and the range of accessible years.
Second, determine the permanent address of the article, which is generally provided by the database provider or the publisher. Many providers have a link that says “persistent link to this article.” Do not cut and paste the URL from the browser’s address box!

Third, if all of your users are on-campus or will be accessing this from on-campus, just copy and paste this link into the email, WebCT, or webpage.
If some of your students will be accessing an article from off-campus, then you’ll need to add the proxy server syntax to the URL. This allows us to verify that off-campus users are affiliated with WCU. Links to articles from databases will not work for off-campus users if this syntax is missing. Using the proxy server syntax works for on-campus access as well. Don’t worry; it’s not as hard as it sounds! Just follow the steps below:
1) Put library.wcu.edu/scripts/libredirect.asp?Port=0&Domain= directly in front of the www or whatever the beginning of the URL is.
For instance:
http://www.ebscohost.com/
becomes
http://library.wcu.edu/scripts/libredirect.asp?Port=0&Domain=www.ebscohost.com
2) If you have additional URL information (e.g., academicsearchpremier/index/story1.html) that comes after the domain name (e.g., http://www.ebscohost.com/), you’ll also need to add &Target=/ after the domain name
For instance:
http://www.ebscohost.com/masterfilepremier
becomes
http://library.wcu.edu/scripts/libredirect.asp?Port=0&Domain=www.esbscohost.com&Target=/masterfilepremierIf you do NOT have additional URL information after the domain name, omit the &Target=/ after the domain name. Additionally, do not end the domain name with a slash. For instance do not end with www.ebscohost.com/. The slash should be omitted.
For example:
http://library.wcu.edu/scripts/libredirect.asp?Port=0&Domain=www.ebscohost.com
not
http://library.wcu.edu/scripts/libredirect.asp?Port=0&Domain=www.ebscohost.com/
3) If your URL has any ampersands (&) in the part that goes after &Target=/, substitute in (AMP) for the ampersand (&). The URL will not work using the ampersand (&).
For instance:
http://www.ebscohost.com/masterfilepremier&cinahl.html
becomes
http://library.wcu.edu/scripts/libredirect.asp?Port=0&Domain=www.ebscohost.com&Target=masterfilepremier(AMP)cinahl.html
